Din Tai Fung Flagship Beijing
In 2017, Din Tai Fung was slated to open its 139th restaurant in the tallest skyscraper in Beijing, China. As the flagship restaurant for north China, it was essential to create an exceptional culinary experience while staying true to traditional values and BEAMY was engaged for the design and fit-out process. Drawing inspiration from Din Tai Fung's signature dish, the "Xiao Long Bao," we implemented natural lines and arcs into the design, with overlapping patterns on the walnut woodwork reminiscent of the woven bamboo steamer. The entrance features a brass ceiling fender light that adds texture to the facade space, while cabinets in the display area form the Chinese character "Din" and conceal LED light strips for a unique effect. We utilized strategic space planning to ensure an efficient turnaround time, enabling a greatly reduced waiting time, concurrently maintaining the high standards of service that Din Tai Fung upholds. Operational challenges such as keeping the food fresh were addressed by incorporating acrylic and glass chutes, and a bold use of red throughout the design adds a pop of color. Patrons appreciate the understated and elegant design concept that creates an excellent dining environment, while maintaining Din Tai Fung's popularity status.
